Learn more about Global Relay For Life!
Global Relay For Life (GRFL) engages global organizations to empower communities and accelerate the fight for a world without cancer. Currently, the American Cancer Society partners with 29 organizations in countries on six continents worldwide to host Relay For Life events. Together, we are 30 partner organizations united in the fight against cancer, with 10 of those partners hosting student-led Relay For Life events.
In 2018, 9 global partners with campus events outside the US fundraised
The Impact of Global Relay For Life
The American Cancer Society licenses the Relay For Life program to our partner organizations so that they can host their own Relay For Life events. Funds raised through Global Relay For Life events support the organization who hosts the event, with a small portion of the fundraising dollars going to support the implementation of the Global Relay For Life program and cancer control efforts worldwide.
With nearly 65 percent of deaths from cancer occurring in low- and middle-income countries, the American Cancer Society is implementing a strategic portfolio of global cancer control programs in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and India. These efforts include education, training, and resources for cancer prevention, saving lives and diminishing suffering, patient support, and capacity development in these countries. One example of where the funds go is the creation of a Hope Hostel in Kenya, a place for cancer patients to stay for free while undergoing treatment. With partners, ACS is providing funds and operational guidance to build the Hope Hostel in Nairobi, the first of its kind in Kenya, giving hope a home.
